Recruit Avant
You may have noticed that there is information to write an additional recruit, Recruit Avant. If you have been reading Jake's letters, you already know that Recruit Avant is in his second month and has yet to get a letter. A letter to this fine young man would go a VERY LONG way for him. Please take time this week and let our boys know we love and appreciate their sacrifice.

Hi Jake,
ReplyDeleteSorry that we probably won't get a letter out to you this week. But we did want to write on this blog cause we know your parents will send it on. The Forrey household is crazy right now. We have boxes, taped boxes, empty boxes, colored boxes....all over the house right now as we are preparing to move out of our house. But before we are not able to use the computer or even find a scrap of paper we wanted to write and tell you we are all thinking about you. We are enjoying reading your letters. What a way to learn about the real world. It sounds like a really tough place but we know that you will do great. Not that our life can even compare to the things you are going through. But when we started packing up everything in our house. It seem extremely overwhemling. To the point where we have felt like we are never going to get it all done in the time frame we have given. But we have come to realize each day as we work little by little things are getting done and we are acomplishing what we set out to do. I'm sure your situation is similar in that you are wondering why you have to go through all this horrible stuff. But in the end we are sure that you will realize that you will come out a better and more prepared marine to be able to do what you signed up to do. Anyhow, Jake, keep working hard and know that you are so loved. We sure miss you and can't wait to see you again. Ruby wants you to know she loves you and can't wait to play and hang out with you. We will write soon after everything is moved out of our house this week. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jake, I'm sorry that I arrived a little late to the party...I just got caught up and read all of your letters your parents have posted as well as everything else everyone has posted. So I'm now caught up and will do much better at writing you! I apologize for not writing this in letter form rather on the blog but it's much more efficient and your mom promised that she would print out our comments and send them to you! But as you know, I'm not necessarily your normal emotional girl but I have to tell you after reading your letters I was getting emotional! Who does that?! I'm sitting here at work reading your blog and tearing up. Real cool b/c if my staff sees me this way they won't take me seriously as their Director. :) But, Jake I just want you to know how proud of you I am!!!! I'm amazed at what you've already gone through in such a short time period! And it makes me thinkg back when David was there and to think that he did all of this as well! It sounds like Hell on earth and I think I would die the first day! Don't think that I wouldn't fake some type of injury and get the H out of there! I remember when I visited Camp Pendelton two times in my life and both experiences left me feeling pretty much the same way...depressed b/c it's scary there! Although the second time was much better b/c it was when David graduated and the campus didnt' seem so dull and gloom. I think a marine passed out during the graduation ceremony b/c they were standing for so long and he locked his legs the whole time. And my first experience was when they asked me to be a youth speaker on a Sunday and give a talk there to the marines. It was quite intimidating but an experience I won't forget! Anyway, Jake, I just want to thank you for representing our country and fighting for us to give us the freedoms that we get to enjoy everyday. I don't know if I told you, but since moving to Texas I totally love country music now! I know, I know don't say it! But, I love this song called Chicken Fried from the Zac Brown group and there's this verse talking about the people who have given their lives and fight for us now to give us the freedoms we enjoy and I always think of you now when I hear this song! I'm copying the lyrics so you know what I'm talking about....
ReplyDelete"I thank God for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly, let it ring.
Salute the ones who died
The ones that give their lives so we don`t have to sacrifice
All the things we love
Like our chicken fried
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up"
I know a little cheesy...b/c I don't eat chicken fried, have a cold beer on friday nights or even have a pair of jeans that I die over but you get the point!
Anyway, Jake hang in there...b/c I know that you're not the giving up type! You're a fighter and I have every confidence in you that you're gonna be part of the group that is still standing at the end of all of this!
And as to me being an old geezer and still not married....well you got one of the two correct...I'm getting married! Or not...alright, alright, I AM an old geezer and I'm still single! Real cool!
Anyway, sure love you Jake and think about you often!
Love, April
Hi Jake-How are you this morning? Dad and I are well. It is Tuesday morning 6/30/09 8:am. Before daddy left this morning, he put on his car the sticker you gave him-Marine Proud Parent one. Did you have a good/uplifting sunday? We hope your spirit was recharged and are happy that you received the sacrament. How is your progress-spiritually, emotionally, physically? It is your 4th week. What are you training in this week? What guns or weapons are you training with? What about the class room? You are brilliant. How long is your class, what are you learning-marine history, statistics, tactics, protocall? Who is the teacher-do you like him-Is he a good instructor? Do you study and test? I bet you are excelling, the classroom was always a breeze for you. Well, we love you deeply and your last letter has kept us buoyent, although, we only received one letter last week. We are sure you are busy succeeding. I like your daily Grateful thoughts-they are basic principles and important things we take for granted. We love you more than we can express.
